At the Greater Richmond Convention Center, we're deeply committed to community engagement and proudly uphold a tradition of giving back. Every year, our dedicated GRCC team members actively contribute their time and energy to support local charities, strengthening our ties with the Greater Richmond community and making a meaningful impact.

Below are some of the events and causes we have participated in over the past few years:

The Greater Richmond Convention Center welcomes the Giving Heart organization each year for a free Thanksgiving feast, open to anyone in the community.

During Richmond’s recent water crisis, the Greater Richmond Convention Center proudly supported first responders by providing space for water storage and distribution, ensuring our community had access to essential resources during the service outage.

The Ultimate Backpack Supply Drive equips thousands of K-12 students in Central Virginia, Virginia Beach, and the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU with backpacks and essential school supplies.

Junior Achievement of Central Virginiahelps prepare today's students for a bright future. JA brings volunteer role models from our community into K-12 classrooms to deliver programs that foster work readiness, entrepreneurship and personal finance.Programs employ experiential learning to inspire students to dream big and reach their potential.
GRCC staff volunteer with JA Finance Park, a program for middle and high school students that teaches personal financial skills in areas such as budgeting, savings, retirement planning, credit history and more.

The Greater Richmond Convention Center encourages staff to participate in the National Wear Red Day to raise awareness and fund the fight against heart disease and stroke in women. The initiative supports educational programs to increase women’s awareness and critical research to discover scientific knowledge about cardiovascular health.

The Greater Richmond Convention Center partners with the YMCA of Greater Richmond and Target to shop with local elementary and middle school students for their back-to-school supplies. Volunteers pair with students to shop and share a meal.

Students from local schools visit the GRCC throughout the year to learn about the hospitality industry. Staff members talk about their roles and how to start a career in the event and hospitality industry. Students tour the facility and have lunch in the food court.

Lee National Denim Day supports breast cancer research. Staff donate to the American Cancer Society and wear jeans to work. Donations support ACS breast cancer programs and services.

The GRCC staff work in conjunction with FeedMore to prepare meals for the Meals on Wheels program. Volunteers organize donations, work in the kitchens and prepare meals for delivery. Canned foods are also collected for FeedMore at the GRCC’s annual client holiday party.

The GRCC partners with Virginia Blood Services to hold several blood drives at the center during the year. Each year, about 50 people donate regularly and the resulting units are calculated to help 125 patients.
